making in relation
Project Overview: We can only know a thing based on the relations it enters into (and even then, can we ever really “know” a thing?). This project provides an opportunity to investigate abstraction as a mode of thinking knowledge (and artistic productions) as something that is contextualized, situated and open to multiple connections. For this collaborative project, each participant is given a small piece of a pre-selected image and then challenged to reproduce this decontextualized fragment in a medium of your choosing (this is also an opportunity to work on formal techniques such as colour theory, textural experiments, and/or skill building within a particular medium). Once each ‘piece of the puzzle’ is reproduced, the fragments are then brought together in order to spark a discussion on how we ‘see’ and ‘understand’ images in relation.
